- What information is visible to my ISP?
- Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is able to determine that your Web browsing traffic is connecting to the server being used by Anonymizer that day, as well as the volume of traffic you are passing through your Web browsers.
- What information is visible to the Web sites I visit?
- The Web sites you visit will be able to see the browser you are using, the Operating System, and the character set. Anonymizer will provide the IP address and location. All cookies placed by a Web site will detect and record the Anonymizer IP address. How does it compare to other Anonymizer services?
- What's the difference between Anonymous Surfing and Total Net Shield?
- Total Net Shield offers higher encryption, 256bit SSH tunneling, than Anonymous Surfing, 128bit SSL. Total Net Shield also secures and anonymizes browsers and Instant Messengers, and provides the ability to select the browser configured through the Anonymizer servers. Anonymous Surfing also secures and anonymizes Web browser traffic.
- What is the difference between Total Net Shield 2.08 and 2.09?
- Total Net Shield was redesigned to make the service simpler and more up-to-date. The result of this update is Total Net Shield 2.09. We have updated the Configuration Wizard so that it recognizes and configures the latest version of the major browsers (Firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Safari 4, and Opera 10). We also did some internal research and found that the vast majority of our customers were not using the Anonymizer email account and newsgroup functions. Thus, to simplify the design of Total Net Shield we eliminated those functions from the interface. Total Net Shield subscribers who use the Anonymizer email account or the newsgroup functionality should continue to use Total Net Shield 2.08.
- Do I need Nyms in addition to Total Net Shield?
- Nyms is a separate service from Total Net Shield and provides a different type of anonymity for Internet users. Nyms allows you to create up to 1000 email address aliases to use for sending email and registering for online accounts. Nyms emails are sent and received via our secure servers. For more information on why you should use Nyms, please see http://anonymizer.com/consumer/products/nyms/ How do I use it?

- How do I configure my browser that does not appear in the Configuration Wizard?
- Please contact Support by calling 1-888-270-0141 or 1-858-202-5084 for assistance Monday through Friday 7:30am-5pm PST or Email Support.

- What is the difference between 127.0.0.1 and local host? When should I use one rather than the other?
- The two terms are interchangeable. The term localhost is a designation meaning this computer. 127.0.0.1 is the loopback IP address also indicating this computer. Nyms Web
-
Why do I need it?
- Why do I need alias email addresses?
- You can use this to keep your identity private when sending emails. This is a great way to protect your personal email address. For example, you may want to comment on an article or request information without revealing your actual name, email address or location. For example, a member of the Democratic Party wants to post on a blog or forum referencing a Republican opinion does not want their real name or email address posted.
- What does Nyms stand for?
- Not only does AnoNYMizer contain the term it also is short for pseudonym. A pseudonym is a fictitious name or pen name.
- Will it get rid of the Spam I currently have?
- Not unless you give your current spammers an updated Nyms address that you promptly disable.
- What IP address will be given for email sent through Nyms?
- The Nyms server IP address will be given. This adds further anonymity as the location of the server will not be that of your location, Internet Service Provider, or email domain. How does it compare to other Anonymizer services?
- How is Nyms different than a Spam filter?
- Many spam filters these days are indiscriminate and take out email messages that you want, while allowing others that you don't. With Anonymizer Nyms, you avoid these hassles with the flexibility to create customizable and disposable email address aliases that can be used for a day, a month, or however long you choose. With Anonymizer Nyms, all of the emails from your "Nyms" accounts are silently integrated into one of your current personal email accounts, thus protecting your true identity. Using Nyms, you are able to look at the emails coming from each source and choose to disable them, thus making them inaccessible to any source that has been given or sold that "Nym" address. If you begin receiving unwanted spam from any Nym at any time, you can simply disable it for good or have it expire on a preset date, with the option to reactivate it at any time in the future. With Anonymizer Nyms, you're in control by keeping your private email and personal identifiable information off of unwanted spam lists.
The Nyms service does not require that you run Total Net Shield for Nyms to function. For more information on why you should use Nyms, please see http://anonymizer.com/consumer/products/nyms/ How do I use it?
- How many Nyms do I get?
- The maximum active Nyms allowed is 1000.
- Can I delete a Nym?
- It is not possible to completely delete a Nym as this would create a security risk if the Nym was selected by another customer and received your email. Please disable the Nym instead.
- How do I change the email address my Nyms are sent to?
- Click on Preferences and Update and enter the email address to receive your Nyms. You will then receive a confirmation email to this address that you will need to click on before you are able to use Nyms.
- Can I configure Nyms into my Outlook or other email client?
- The different addresses will not be able to be set up as different email accounts. If your primary email address is set up in Outlook you can set up rules to sort each Nyms address to a different folder.
- Do I still need to report these emails as Spam to my email provider?
- No, when you mark these emails as Spam you are actually reporting the nyms.net domain as Spam. This increases the chance of Nyms then being caught in a Spam filter and possibly being blocked entirely.
- How do I use Nyms?
- First click on Preferences and enter and confirm the email address you would like to receive the email sent to the Nyms addresses you create. Then, you Create a nym and provide it as an email address or Send an anonymous email through the Nyms Web site, www.nyms.net, or the Nyms application.
- How do I reply to an email sent to a Nym?
- Use the Reply feature and the reply email address will be populated with a tag routing the email through the Nyms server. This will ensure the reply has your Nyms address rather than your normal email address.
- How do I access my Nyms online?
- Log on to www.nyms.net with your username and password. The Web site offers the same features as the software and can be accessed from any computer.
- Can I send emails to multiple email addresses through the Nyms Web site or application?
- It is not possible to send to more than one address at a time.
- Can I send or receive an attachment using Nyms?
- The Web site, www.nyms.net, will send a Nyms email message with an attachment up to 5 MB. The application does not support attachments. A reply sent to a Nyms email address supports attachments up to 2 MB. How do I know it's working?
- How do I ensure my Nyms reply is anonymous?
- Please ensure that your email does not automatically provide your name or a signature when replying. Click here for additional tips.
- I used a Nyms address as a cc and did not receive the message.
- When sending to a Nyms email address, please use the address in the "To" field. The Nyms servers do not recognize "cc" fields.
- Why can't I have a record of the first communication sent with a Nym?
- If you use the Nyms Web site or the software there will not be a record of the Anonymous email message sent unless you send a copy of the message to your personal email address. These messages are not saved on our server.

The Nyms service does not require that you run Total Net Shield for Nyms to function.
