Windows 8 Users: Switch Anonymizer Universal to L2TP to Access Apps Posted: November 19th, 2012 12:30pm Microsoft has made several updates since the release of Anonymizer Universal for Windows version 1.3 causing a conflict between Anonymizer Universal OpenVPN and Windows 8 apps. Please use L2TP mode to access your apps while using Anonymizer Universal on Windows 8 while our Development team investigates the issue. If you find you are unable to access your apps after switching to L2TP, it may be necessary to restart your computer.

To switch to L2TP, click on Preferences “i” in the lower right-hand corner of Anonymizer Universal. In the “Preferences” tab, expand “Advanced Connection Settings” and select the radio button “L2TP/IPsec.” Then click “Done” and “Connect.”

If you are experiencing difficulty connecting with Anonymizer Universal, the issue can often be resolved by changing the connection mode to “TCP” or “L2TP/IPSec.” Posted: May 25, 2012 9:00am To switch to “TCP”, access the “Advanced Connections” menu on the Anonymizer Universal interface by selecting the (i) on the bottom right-hand side of the launch screen. On the “Advanced Connections” menu, slide the OpenVPN slider bar to the left, select ‘Done’, and then ‘Connect‘. To switch to “L2TP/IPSec” select the radio button in the “Advanced Connections” menu.

Software Updates

Anonymizer Universal Version 1.3 for Mac Released Posted: December 14, 2012 Anonymizer released an automatic update today for the Anonymizer Universal Mac client. This update fixes an issue that prevented Mountain Lion users from using OpenVPN mode. It also resolves a bug that caused a network configuration dialog to appear every time the application was launched with Mountain Lion. The client is now signed for compatibility with Mountain Lion and enhanced security.

To install the update, please click on the “i” in the lower right corner of the client. Navigate to “Updates” and click “Check”.

Leopard users: Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) is no longer supported. Please use the link posted in “My Account Home” to download the Leopard compatible version.

Anonymizer Universal for Windows Version 1.3 Released Posted: November 6, 2012 This update fixes several issues and is recommended for all Anonymizer Universal users. For customers that already have the software installed, please click on the “i” in the lower right-hand corner of the client, go to “Updates” and click “Check Now”.

Windows 8 Compatible
In Windows 8, Anonymizer Universal will open a minimized Windows Network Connections window the first time you connect using OpenVPN. This is due to a bug in how Windows 8 loads network adapters at startup. The Network Connections window only needs to be opened once each time you reboot your computer, and may be freely closed at any time. Anonymizer Universal is not compatible with Windows 8 RT or the Microsoft Surface™ with Windows RT due to Microsoft’s restrictions on software for Windows RT.

OpenVPN Improvements
Significant improvements were made to OpenVPN Automatic mode. A bug was fixed that prevented UDP connections from failing over to TCP when UDP was blocked or unavailable. The connection will now automatically fail over to an alternate protocol if the server does not respond within 20 seconds. This makes Automatic mode much more usable in a mobile environment, where UDP may be blocked.
